Loan Periods

Loan periods vary for materials borrowed through interlibrary loan. There is a one-day grace period on all returned materials with the exception of museum passes.

Maximum allowed number of:

Books on loan: 30
Videos: 5
DVDs: 5
CDs: 15
Children's videos: 3
Children's DVDs: 3

Renewals

All materials (except videos, DVDs, and museum passes) may be renewed twice. An item on hold for another patron may not be renewed.

Holds

Patrons may place holds on materials through the LION online catalog. Library staff can place items on hold for patrons as well. A staff member will phone patrons when requested materials come in to BML for pickup.

InterLibrary Loan

The statewide database is available to patrons through ReQuest, which allows individuals to select materials from libraries across the state. Library staff can request items for patrons as well. Library staff will contact patrons when ReQuest materials come in for pick up.

Fines

Children's materials except for videos: $.05 per day
Adult materials except for videos and DVDs: $0.10 per day
Videos and DVD's: $1.00 per day

The total maximum fine allowed on any one borrower's card is $10.00. Failure to bring the fine down below this maximum or to pay for lost materials may result in restrictions on borrowing privileges.

Please note that overdue notices and bills are sent automatically by the LION office.

Driving directions:

From points North (Middletown, Hartford):

Take Route 9 South to Exit 10.
Go right at the end of the ramp, onto Route 154 South.
After 2.2 miles you will come to a traffic light. Go straight through the light and continue for about 3 miles. BML is on the left shortly after you pass the Haddam Congregational Church on the right.

From points South (Old Saybrook, Chester, Deep River):

Take Route 9 North to Exit 7. At the end of the ramp go left onto Route 154 North. Go straight through the light at the junction of Routes 154 and 82. In 3.3 miles you will come to BML on your right. Shortly before you come to the library parking lot you will pass the former Haddam County Jail, a gray stone building, on your left.

From the New Haven area:

Take Route 95 to Route 81 (Exit #63 , at Clinton Crossing). Go left on Route 81 North (10 miles) traveling through the Killingworth Circle until you come to the light in the center of Higganum at the junction of Routes 81 and 154. Turn right at the light and go about 3 miles to BML on the left.
