No matter which way you decide to give, your support directly benefits our services to the community. Brainerd Memorial Library is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) tax status. Most contributions are tax deductible.

Matching Gifts

You can increase your donation to Brainerd Memorial Library by using your employer's corporate matching gift program. Many corporations have matching gift programs and will match donations made to a charitable organization. It’s an easy way for you to double or perhaps triple the impact of your gift. Check with your company’s human resources department to find out about its matching-gift policy. Many employers will provide a form for you to fill out and send to us with your donation. We will verify your gift and return the form to your company, which will then issue a matching gift contribution directly to us.

What Is An Endowment?

Endowments originated to establish a pact between generations. The Library endowment represents a promise from past and current donors to future Haddam residents.

Essentially, the endowment is an aggregation of assets invested on behalf of a non-profit institution or organization to support its mission in perpetuity. An endowment allows donors to transfer their private dollars to public purposes for as long as the institution or organization continues to exist.

An endowment typically includes funds given by donors who expect, as a condition of the gift, that its principal will not be spent. Such donors also expect that the gift’s value to the institution will increase over time through a responsible investment strategy that balances earnings and growth of principal.

You may make your gift to the Endowment Fund in either of two ways:

Through a direct donation, or
By including a bequest to the Library in your will.

A Direct Gift

A direct gift donation can be made at any time to the Endowment Fund. Please send your check, made payable to “Brainerd Memorial Library” to:

Donations may be made as tributes. Tribute gifts may be made for a vari-ety of occasions, including birthdays and anniversaries, or to memorialize a loved one. The Library provides acknowledgement to the honoree or to the family of the deceased. Dona-tions to the Brainerd Memorial Library are tax-deductible.

A Bequest

A charitable bequest for the Library may be inserted into your will when it is written or revised. Regard-less of the size of your estate or your charitable bequest, the full value of your gift will be exempt from state and federal estate taxes. Donors of bequests may choose to be recognized through the Brainerd Memorial Library Association.
